About

On Feb. 9, 2009, Social Media Week (SMW) launches for the first time in New York City. It aims to create an open and inclusive environment offering a series of free events, including workshops and panel discussions, and a platform for individuals, group and companies to organize their own activities.

The week’s activities have been designed to bring together the NYC community and draw attention to the incredible talent, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that continues to grow in this city.

To ensure that Social Media Week events remain free, the organizers have partnered with NY based companies such as Fleishman Hillard, Deep Focus, For Your Imagination and Brooklyn based Drop.io to host events in their offices.

Social Media Week aims to:

  1. Be open and inclusive
  2. Drive growth and innovation
  3. Be Entertaining and inspiring
  4. Focus on those who ‘do’ rather than those who say they ‘do’
  5. Be a platform for real world connections

“Here at Razorfish we’re excited to support Social Media Week and help put the spotlight on the New York Social Media scene so that it gets the attention it deserves. In this trying economic environment more companies are turning to social to help them solve critical business problems and reach more customers. Social Media Week furthers that conversation in a very meaningful, tactile and inspirational manner.”

Shiv Singh - VP & Global Social Media Lead, Razorfish

“Social Media Week puts on display the best of New York’s tech and media industry. It’s a week about community and innovation. What could be better?”

Nate Westeheimer - Leader of NY Tech Meetup & Entrepreneur in Residence at Rose Tech Ventures

“New York is at the epicenter of technology, advertising, and media. It’s a city where more people are connected by more people than anywhere I’ve seen. It’s the perfect setting for a week filled with lively discussion around community, technology, and the future — and I can’t think of a better group of people to be having that discussion with.
